  • Love & Karma Opens Tiger Tail Asian Film Festival With East Coast Premiere

Historic Milestone: First Feature Film Produced, Directed, Written, and Led by Filipino Artists to Open the Festival

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Tiger Tail Asian Film Festival is honored to announce that Love & Karma, the romantic drama inspired by true events, will serve as its Opening Night Film. The screening marks the film’s highly anticipated East Coast premiere.

Based on Butterfly, the award-winning book by Celeste Friedman, Love & Karma represents a historic achievement. It is the first feature-length film produced, directed, written, and led entirely by artists of Filipino descent to debut at — and open — the festival. This milestone underscores the rising global presence of Filipino voices in independent cinema.

The film first premiered at the Asian World Film Festival in Culver City, California, in November 2025. It attracted international attention and critical acclaim.

At the helm of the project is filmmaker and executive producer Celeste Friedman, whose creative vision spans storytelling, fashion, music, and personal transformation. Last month, Friedman was honored at the Global Impact Summit & Awards in Bali, Indonesia. She received recognition for Creative Entrepreneurship and Transformational Leadership. The honor reflects her dedication to using art and narrative to inspire connection, possibility, and transformation.

Set across multiple countries and cultures, Love & Karma explores timeless themes of love, destiny, forgiveness, and personal awakening. Its multiracial cast and cross-cultural narrative reflect a world shaped by shared human experience. Framed by visually rich international backdrops, the film weaves together Western, Filipino, and Southeast Asian influences into a cinematic tapestry with global resonance.

  • DeForest Tree Service Corporation Mobilizes Enhanced Storm Cleanup Resources for South Hampton Roads

    VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – March 10, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

DeForest Tree Service Corporation has strengthened its emergency response capabilities following severe winter storms that have impacted Virginia Beach and surrounding coastal communities throughout February 2026. The Virginia Beach-based company has deployed additional crane-assisted removal teams and expanded equipment resources to address the substantial backlog of hazardous tree situations created by recent nor’easters and winter weather events.

The February 22-23 winter storm brought heavy, wet snowfall and damaging winds to the region, compounding damage from earlier February nor’easters that caused ice accumulation, widespread power outages, and numerous tree failures across residential and commercial properties. These consecutive weather events have created unprecedented demand for professional tree removal services, particularly for situations requiring specialized equipment and expertise.

    View from DeForest Tree Service

DeForest Tree Service provides crane-assisted tree removal capabilities that have proven essential for addressing storm-damaged trees in challenging locations. The crane-assisted approach allows crews to safely extract large, compromised trees from confined spaces where traditional felling methods would pose risks to nearby structures, power lines, or underground utilities. This methodology has become increasingly critical as coastal Virginia experiences more frequent severe weather patterns.

“The recent series of winter storms has left many property owners facing dangerous tree situations that require immediate professional attention,” said Brandon DeForest, Owner of DeForest Tree Service Corporation. “Our crane-assisted removal capabilities allow us to handle trees that are leaning over homes, entangled in power lines, or situated in tight urban spaces where conventional removal methods simply aren’t viable. We’re committed to helping our community recover safely and efficiently from these weather events.”

The company’s comprehensive storm response protocol includes initial hazard assessment, strategic removal planning, precise crane operation, complete debris handling, and stump grinding services. Crews maintain round-the-clock availability to respond to emergency situations, ensuring that property owners can quickly address immediate safety concerns. The crane technology enables operators to lift and lower massive tree sections without ground damage, minimizing impact to surrounding landscapes and structures.

DeForest Tree Service serves South Hampton Roads with coverage extending throughout Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and neighboring communities. The expanded crane resources and additional certified crews have enabled the company to reduce response times for emergency calls while maintaining the safety standards required for high-risk tree removal operations.

The increased frequency and intensity of coastal storms has highlighted the importance of professional tree services equipped to handle complex removal scenarios. Trees weakened by ice accumulation, saturated soil conditions, and sustained winds often present hidden structural failures that can create hazardous conditions days or weeks after initial storm damage occurs.

DeForest Tree Service Corporation has established itself as a regional leader in emergency tree services through its combination of advanced equipment, certified expertise, and commitment to rapid response. The family-owned company specializes in precision takedowns, tree trimming and pruning, stump removal, and comprehensive storm cleanup services for both residential and commercial properties. With decades of experience serving coastal Virginia, the company has developed specialized protocols for addressing the unique challenges presented by the region’s weather patterns and urban tree canopy.

  • Hazelwood School District Earns 2026 Dr. Rance Thomas Excellence in Community Partnership Award

ST. LOUIS, MO, UNITED STATES, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Hazelwood School District has been named the 2026 recipient of the Dr. Rance Thomas Excellence in Community Partnership Award by St. Louis Community College–Florissant Valley, a distinguished honor recognizing organizations that embody the spirit of service and collaboration championed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Presented annually during the campus’s MLK Celebration, the award recognizes one external partner whose work advances Dr. King’s mission while strengthening students’ and the broader community’s educational experience. First awarded in 2018 in honor of the late Dr. Rance Thomas, a beloved community leader who worked closely with North County Churches United for Racial Harmony and Justice, the recognition is considered a significant distinction. Only one organization is selected each year.

HSD was chosen for its exceptional growth in partnership with STLCC–Florissant Valley, particularly over the past two years. The district has expanded dual credit and dual enrollment opportunities, including Central High’s Friday Academy, strengthened the Hazelwood East Early College program, and now represents 46% of the STEM Academy’s enrollment. District leaders and staff have remained deeply engaged through initiatives such as Mindset Mondays, increased dual credit participation across all high schools, and continued collaboration within Career and Technical Education programs and advisory boards. MJ Smith-Butler’s dedicated presence in supporting students in the early college space has further strengthened the partnership.

Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart expressed gratitude for the recognition:

“We are deeply honored to receive the Dr. Rance Thomas Excellence in Community Partnership Award. This recognition affirms the hard work of our students, staff, and parents who are committed to expanding opportunities and strengthening our community. Hazelwood School District values our collaboration with STLCC–Florissant Valley, and this award inspires us to continue building pathways that empower our scholars and uplift the community.”

The award was presented during the MLK Celebration last month in the Florissant Valley campus theatre.

This recognition reflects Hazelwood School District’s ongoing commitment to service, partnership, and empowering scholars—living out the belief that, as Dr. King reminded us, greatness is found in serving others.

The event will begin at 6:00 PM.

The annual gala unites leaders from business, academia, public service, and philanthropy to support scholarships that increase access to higher education for outstanding Caribbean students at The University of the West Indies (UWI). He will receive the Chancellor’s Award and the Corporate Award for Excellence in Global Business Leadership, recognizing his visionary leadership and the value-driven enterprise he has built.

WILTON, CT, UNITED STATES, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — An autograph letter signed by Thomas Jefferson dated May 16, 1824; a group of 40 silver gelatin photographs originally taken by Yousuf Karsh; a Sigmund Freud signed photograph taken in 1921; and a copy of DC Comics Superman No. 12 (Sept.-Oct. 1941) graded CGC 6.5 are just some of the highlight lots in University Archives’ online-only Rare Autographs, Manuscripts, Books, Space & Comics auction scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th.

The auction, starting promptly at 10:30am Eastern Time, is filled with items in many categories. The catalog in its entirety – all 445 lots – is up for viewing and bidding now on the University Archives website, www.UniversityArchives.com, plus the popular platforms Invaluable.com, Auctionzip.com and LiveAuctioneers.com. Telephone and absentee bids will also be accepted.

“Our March auction will feature more than 45 lots related to Space, from the Mercury program through the Space Shuttle, and over 25 lots dedicated to comics, including Superman, Batman, Green Hornet and others,” said John Reznikoff, the president and owner of University Archives.

“The catalog will also include Part II of the Yousuf & Estrellita Karsh Estate, including several dealer’s lots of large-scale photographic prints of celebrity subjects that were exhibited around the world in 1988 and later retained in Yousuf Karsh’s personal collection,” Mr. Reznikoff added.

Buyers and collectors will also be able to find rare and superb historical memorabilia from other collecting categories, too, including US Presidents, Science, Notables, Art and World Leaders.

Lot 40 is the Thomas Jefferson autograph signed letter, mentioning the University of Virginia and referring to Jefferson’s Enlightenment beliefs in human excellence. The former President thanked his correspondent, Major John Michael O’Connor, on May 16, 1824, from his Monticello home, for having given him a textbook on military theory, which Jefferson later donated to UVA for use by its students. Estimate: $30,000-$40,000

Notably, there are also two documents signed by Jefferson in the March sale: one a signed transmission of an Act of Congress; and one a signed Revolutionary War-dated death warrant.

Lot 177 is the dealer’s lot of 40 silver gelatin bleed mounted photographs originally taken by Yousuf Karsh for inclusion in a 1988 retrospective at London’s Barbican Gallery organized by the International Center for Photography. The collection includes large-scale black and white photographic prints of celebrities, including the Apollo 11 astronauts, Ernest Hemingway, Muhammad Ali, and other sitters, each measuring 19.75″ x 23.75”. Estimate: $15,000-$20,000. There are 10+ other lots from the Yousuf & Estrellita Karsh Estate in our March sale.

Lot 429 is the Sigmund Freud signed photograph showing the renowned psychoanalyst holding a cigar, in what is perhaps his most iconic portrait. The photographer, Max Halberstadt, was also Freud’s son-in-law. The portrait was taken in 1921, the year after Freud’s daughter (and Max’s wife) Sophie Freud Halberstadt died of the Spanish Flu. The photo should bring $8,000-$10,000.

Lot 163 is the vintage issue of DC Comics’ Superman No. 12 (September-October 1941), encapsulated and graded by CGC with a Universal Grade 6.5. Estimate: $1,500-$2,400. This is one of over 25 lots in the March sale featuring Golden Age comic superheroes such a Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and others, offered singularly as well as in dealer’s lots.

Lot 425 is an Albert Einstein autograph letter signed in German, dated September 17, 1927, addressed to his frequent correspondent and collaborator, Dr. Chaim Herman Müntz. The letter with nine equations explores the relationship between the radius, mass, and volume of spherical objects, both large and small, and how they react to different forces, and is part of Einstein’s later discussion of the Theory of General Relativity. Estimate: $20,000-$30,000

Lot 247 is a Meyer Lansky owned Vacheron Constantin wristwatch, photo-identified and sourced directly from the family of the “Mob Accountant.” The timepiece, with its 18K gold watch face and black leather strap, was gifted by Lansky to his grandson, Gary Rapoport, on the latter’s 21st birthday on June 3, 1976. The wristwatch is accompanied by a COA. Estimate: $18,000-$25,000

Lot 270 is a Huntington Printing of the Declaration of Independence, by engraver Eleazer Huntington of Hartford, Connecticut, circa 1820-1824. The broadside shows the exact text of the foundational document as well as the signers’ signatures in exact facsimile. The Hunting Printing is one of the very earliest broadside reproductions of the Declaration of Independence. Estimate: $15,000-$20,000

Lot 353 is a vintage photograph of Mohandas Gandhi, double-signed by him in both Hindi and English. The signed photo is PSA/DNA slabbed and graded NM-MT 8, and comes with provenance from Kanu Gandhi, the Mahatma’s second cousin once removed, who served as his staffer and official photographer from 1938-1948. Estimate: $12,000-$20,000. Collectors will also find an 1889 autograph letter signed by Gandhi in the March sale, a desirable example, and the earliest we’ve ever handled.

Lot 142 is a George Washington signed Revolutionary War discharge paper and Badge of Merit certificate awarded to Anthony Parcell, a drummer in the 2nd New Jersey Regiment, after “Six Years of faithful Service.” Washington, in his role as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, confirmed Parcell’s official discharge on June 5, 1783. • BLUE Missions Announces 2026 Annual Gala Presented by Amazon to Advance Clean Water and Youth Leadership Initiatives

The organization will honor Roberto Echeverri with the Be Bold Award and the Santamaria Family with the Change Maker Award on the eve of World Water Day.

MIAMI, FL, UNITED STATES, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BLUE Missions is proud to announce its 2026 BLUE Gala Presented by Amazon, taking place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. As the organization’s premier annual fundraising event and largest visibility platform, the Gala will convene more than 400 corporate, civic, and philanthropic leaders from across South Florida in support of clean water access and youth leadership development.

Held on the eve of World Water Day, the 2026 Gala will serve as both a celebration and a call to action, positioning BLUE at the center of awareness and action in the movement for water equity.

Hosted by Emmy Award winning journalist Louis Aguirre, the evening will honor Roberto Echeverri, a fellow Christopher Columbus High School alumnus, with the Be Bold Award and the Santamaria Family with the Change Maker Award in recognition of their leadership, generosity, and commitment to service.

Since its founding in 2010, BLUE has mobilized thousands of students and volunteers to create measurable impact locally and internationally. To date, the organization has connected 42,636 people to clean water, improved sanitation access for 13,694 individuals, engaged 4,238 students in United States based education programs, and generated more than 1.26 million community service hours through youth participation.

Through international service projects in the Dominican Republic and sustainability education programs across South Florida, BLUE empowers young people to find their purpose and make service a part of their lives. Together, these initiatives reflect one unified mission, Water For All, Forever.

This year’s Gala theme, The Nature of Service, will anchor the evening’s program. Through powerful storytelling, immersive visuals, and testimonials from students and community members, guests will witness firsthand how service multiplies impact, much like a river that flows not for itself but for all life it sustains.

“Water impacts everything. It is our most basic need and our most critical resource. It is the foundation of every community and necessary for public health and economic growth. This means that we must protect water wherever it is under threat and prepare the next generation of leaders who will ensure that there is water for all, forever,” said Danny Rodríguez, CEO and Co Founder of BLUE Missions.

Every dollar raised goes toward sustaining BLUE’s programming both internationally in the Dominican Republic and domestically in the United States, ensuring the organization can continue delivering clean water, sanitation, and sustainability education where it is needed most.

    About BLUE Missions:
