  • DiabetesSisters Presents Peer Support Strategies for Type 1 Diabetes Screening at ATTD 2026 (Poster #286)

Poster highlights how healthcare expertise and lived screening experience together can help individuals move from awareness to action.

RALEIGH, AL, UNITED STATES, March 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — DiabetesSisters will present new insights on peer support and Type 1 diabetes screening engagement at the Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD) 2026 Conference, March 11–14, 2026, in Barcelona and online.

The organization will present Poster #286, titled “From Awareness to Action: Peer Support Strategies to Advance Type 1 Diabetes Screening.” Presenters include Donna Rice, Chief Clinical Officer, and Michele Polz, CEO of DiabetesSisters.

The work explores how peer-powered, evidence-informed support can help individuals move beyond awareness of Type 1 diabetes risk toward screening and earlier identification.

Insights come from community workshops led by healthcare experts together with individuals who have lived experience with Type 1 diabetes screening, combining clinical expertise with real-world perspectives to help participants understand screening options and discuss next steps. This research was sponsored by Sanofi.

“We are learning that awareness alone is not enough,” said Donna Rice, Chief Clinical Officer of DiabetesSisters. “When clinical expertise is combined with lived screening experience, individuals gain both the information and confidence needed to consider screening.”

The sessions were open and inclusive, welcoming people living with diabetes, family members, caregivers, and members of the general public interested in learning about Type 1 diabetes screening and risk.

Through its national programs and partnerships with healthcare organizations, research groups, and community stakeholders, DiabetesSisters works to improve engagement, confidence, and health outcomes through structured peer support and education.

Evidence from DiabetesSisters programming in 2024 demonstrates the potential impact of peer-supported engagement:
90% of participants reported feeling convinced to make behavioral changes
88% reported feeling confident they could make those changes

DiabetesSisters will also host an upcoming webinar featuring Robert Gabbay, MD, PhD, titled “Reimagining Diabetes Support at Scale,” which will explore the growing evidence behind peer-powered support models and their role in improving engagement and health outcomes.

ATTD attendees and those interested in Type 1 diabetes screening are invited to connect with the DiabetesSisters team during ATTD 2026.

  • Food Waste Action Week Calls on Canadians to Become Leftover Legends

National campaign led by Love Food Hate Waste Canada highlights simple actions to save money, reduce emissions, and prevent food waste at home

Food waste is one of the most solvable climate challenges we face. Food Waste Action Week is showing that small everyday actions, like planning meals and storing food properly, can make a difference”
    — Megan Czerpak

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Canadians are being encouraged to rethink leftovers and take simple steps to reduce food waste during Food Waste Action Week, taking place March 9–13, 2026.

Led by Love Food Hate Waste Canada, the annual campaign focuses national attention on the environmental, social, and economic impacts of wasted food, and empowers households with practical solutions to make the most of the food they buy.

This year’s campaign theme, “Be a Leftover Legend,” aims to shift how Canadians think about leftovers, highlighting how they can be transformed into quick, delicious meals rather than forgotten items in the fridge. Leftovers are currently the third most wasted food category in Canadian households, often saved with good intentions but ultimately discarded when they’re forgotten or unused.

Food waste is a significant issue across the country. Millions of tonnes of edible food are thrown away in Canadian homes each year, costing households billions of dollars and contributing to greenhouse gas emissions when food ends up in landfills.

“Food waste is one of the most solvable climate challenges we face,” said Megan Czerpak, Head of Communications for Love Food Hate Waste Canada at FoodMesh. “Food Waste Action Week is about showing Canadians that small everyday actions, like planning meals, storing food properly, and getting creative with leftovers, can make a meaningful difference. When we make the most of the food we already have, we save money, reduce waste, and help protect the planet.”

Throughout the week, Love Food Hate Waste Canada will share practical tips, recipes, and resources to help households waste less food and stretch their grocery budgets further.
Canadians are encouraged to join the movement by sharing their own leftover tips and recipes, downloading the campaign toolkit, and following along on social media.

Love Food Hate Waste Canada is the country’s leading behaviour-change campaign dedicated to reducing household food waste. By providing simple, practical strategies the campaign empowers Canadians to waste less and save more every day.
Canadians can learn more about Food Waste Action Week, access helpful tools, and share their own food-saving tips at: https://lovefoodhatewaste.ca/fwaw/

Love Food Hate Waste Canada works with a growing network of government agencies, businesses, and organizations across the country to amplify food waste prevention messaging and inspire behaviour change at scale. Campaign partners play a critical role in helping deliver resources, share educational tools, and bring food-saving solutions to communities nationwide.
Organizations interested in joining the movement and supporting Canada’s leading food waste prevention campaign are encouraged to connect with the Love Food Hate Waste Canada team at lovefoodhatewaste@foodmesh.ca to learn more about partnership opportunities and how to get involved.

About Love Food Hate Waste Canada
Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) Canada is a national campaign dedicated to helping Canadians reduce food waste in their homes through simple, practical everyday actions. • MARCH 11 The Connection Between Online Gaming, Problem Gambling and Suicidal Despair Intensity Is Often Misunderstood.

TAUNTON, MA, UNITED STATES, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention MCSP) & the Bristol County Suicide Prevention Coalition invite families, friends, community members to gather together around computers for a compassionate, 90-minute knowledge-based session that will support all to better understand suicide risk, recognize warning signs, and feel more confident offering support.

This is not a clinical training. While evidence based, the tone is more informal kitchen table conversation. Bring your supper or dessert to the virtual table.

Participants will gain insight into the emotional experience of suicidal despair, learn practical ways to respond with empathy, and leave with clear next steps for continued training and connection.

Fact: A 2025 Online Gaming study reported that over 40% of adolescents showed signs of video game addiction and were significantly more likely to report suicidal thoughts and behaviors (NIH).
Fact: Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated. Conditions like depression, anxiety, and substance problems, especially when unaddressed, increase risk for suicide. • Love & Karma Opens Tiger Tail Asian Film Festival With East Coast Premiere

Historic Milestone: First Feature Film Produced, Directed, Written, and Led by Filipino Artists to Open the Festival

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, March 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Tiger Tail Asian Film Festival is honored to announce that Love & Karma, the romantic drama inspired by true events, will serve as its Opening Night Film. The screening marks the film’s highly anticipated East Coast premiere.

Based on Butterfly, the award-winning book by Celeste Friedman, Love & Karma represents a historic achievement. It is the first feature-length film produced, directed, written, and led entirely by artists of Filipino descent to debut at — and open — the festival. This milestone underscores the rising global presence of Filipino voices in independent cinema.

The film first premiered at the Asian World Film Festival in Culver City, California, in November 2025. It attracted international attention and critical acclaim.

At the helm of the project is filmmaker and executive producer Celeste Friedman, whose creative vision spans storytelling, fashion, music, and personal transformation. Last month, Friedman was honored at the Global Impact Summit & Awards in Bali, Indonesia. She received recognition for Creative Entrepreneurship and Transformational Leadership. The honor reflects her dedication to using art and narrative to inspire connection, possibility, and transformation.

Set across multiple countries and cultures, Love & Karma explores timeless themes of love, destiny, forgiveness, and personal awakening. Its multiracial cast and cross-cultural narrative reflect a world shaped by shared human experience. Framed by visually rich international backdrops, the film weaves together Western, Filipino, and Southeast Asian influences into a cinematic tapestry with global resonance.
